Experiment in International Living (EIL)
A cultural exchange program that takes groups of eight to 10 students for a semester of studying and living in a foreign country. Now called World Learning, EIL was founded in 1931, the privately financed organization arranges for students to live with host families for a semester and participate in intensive study of foreign languages and cultures. Although Experiment in International Living has programs for individuals, the heart of the program is its group programs, with each group headed by an EIL-trained academic director to oversee study activities. In 1964, EIL established a School for International Training that awards master’s degrees.
