American Association of School Administrators (AASA) - American Education
The major professional association for public and private school principals and other administrators. Founded in 1865 as the National Association of School Superintendents, it was a department in the NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION until 1969, when the disparate interests of NEA teacher members and administrators made it difficult for NEA to function smoothly. AASA provides a variety of professional services for its nearly 20,000 members and lobbies for legislation to improve education. On request, American Association of School Administrators conducts formal audits of curricula and teaching methods at individual schools to determine a school’s strengths and weaknesses.(See also curriculum audit.)
